Introduction

Stress fractures are tiny cracks in the thigh bone (femur) caused by repetitive stress rather than a single trauma.

Signs/Symptoms

  • Gradual onset of thigh or groin pain

  • Pain worsening with activity but easing at rest

  • Localised tenderness

Causes

  • Overtraining or sudden load increases

  • Poor footwear or training surfaces

  • Low bone density or nutrition issues
