Shin Splints
Introduction
Medial tibial stress syndrome, commonly known as shin splints, is irritation of the muscles, tendons, and bone tissue along the shin. It is particularly common in runners and athletes who increase training load quickly.
Signs/Symptoms
Dull aching pain along the shin, tenderness, and stiffness during and after exercise.
Causes
Overtraining, poor footwear, hard surfaces, flat feet, or biomechanical issues such as overpronation.
How Physio Can Help
Physiotherapy identifies contributing factors, relieves pain with manual therapy and taping, and guides a graded return to activity with load management strategies.
