Sciatica
Introduction
Sciatica refers to irritation of the sciatic nerve, often due to a disc issue or spinal joint compression. It causes pain that radiates from the lower back into the leg.
Signs/Symptoms
Sharp or burning pain down the leg, tingling, numbness, or weakness. Symptoms may worsen with sitting or lifting.
Causes
Disc bulge, arthritis, spinal stiffness, or muscular tightness compressing the sciatic nerve.
How Physio Can Help
Physiotherapy reduces nerve irritation with mobility work, strengthening, postural retraining, and neural gliding techniques. Individualised exercise programs help prevent recurrence.
