TMJ (Jaw Pain & Clicking)
Introduction
Jaw pain can affect everything from eating and talking to sleep and concentration. Often called TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction, this condition involves pain, clicking, or tightness in the jaw or surrounding areas—and it’s more common than people think.
Signs & Symptoms
Pain when opening or closing the mouth
Clicking, popping, or locking in the jaw joint
Tension or ache around the cheeks, ears, or temples
Headaches (especially around the temples)
Night-time clenching or teeth grinding
Common Causes
Jaw clenching (often stress-related)
Teeth grinding during sleep (bruxism)
Poor posture or upper neck stiffness
Trauma or injury to the jaw
Arthritis or joint degeneration
